    @tradefast: Seems to follow from this analysis that a reversal of the futures curve to backwardation would generate gains and price increases in USO. Is that correct?

    @tradefast: I thought (very unsure) that DBO is a ETF not ETN. DXO is an ETN. Could you clarify? Thanks for the great info!

    you are correct, DBO is an ETF. Had accidentally swapped the research from DXO. everything now reflects correct information in the article.

    DBO = ETF
    USO = ETF
    OIL = ETN
    DXO = leveraged ETN

    How would you short crude oil?

    ticker symbol DUG comes to mind for shorting crude oil & energy. You might go to google or yahoo finance and type in 'oil' and see what short funds pop up in addition.
