Market Folly: New Leveraged Commodity & Currency ETFs

It is interesting, the timing of deleveraging vs the launching of these new ETFs. Nonetheless, they have exploded in popularity. UYG is close to overtaking XLF in daily traded volume (SKF has already exceeded XLF in terms of $ volume traded). And the 3x ETFs are now trading 4-10M shares a day after only a few weeks on the market. Impressive to say the least!

As a futures trader, I wish the CME's lessor known products (MSCI EM, FTSE/Xinhua China 25, Financial SPCTR) enjoyed nearly the volume and success their ETF brethren have (or *any* volume whatsoever). 24-hour access + IRC 6781 tax treatment, how can the ETFs steal the show..

really is interesting, isn't it. i know so many traders who have flocked to the leveraged etf's solely because the price action in there is volatile and you can really make some money fast.

who knows, maybe you'll see more volume in futures as i think more global macro funds will emerge from all of this.
