That's why we don't "track" global macro or trading firms since they're in and out of positions so quickly. And, as you'll see with the performance breakdowns we post up from Clarium, they've been net short equities for a little bit anyways... so one could argue that these positions aren't worth even checking. But, we mainly do so since people are interested in them for whatever reason.

I've also noticed (like you) that they have used indices or ETFs quite often in their trading, which I found interesting.

Re: Peter Thiel & Clarium Capital's Huge Oil Services Play: 13F Filing Q1 2009

Obviously, they already sold out of their equity position sometime in April and have a large short position. Energy has good fundamentals in addition to the good technicals for a bear market rally play.

Clarium doesn't diversify or use value investing heavily. (With the exception of buying an ETF which is a diversified basket of stocks.) I suppose their short equity positions are a few very large shorts against equity indices (such as the Russell 2000, S&P 500, and NASDAQ, and maybe some ETFs). I suppose the construction of their short positions is rather simple, and doesn't require a genius to imitate. Fundamentally, I know the US equity market is extremely overvalued at this junture from a historical perspective.
